Reactors

Symyx Tools offers systems for catalytic applications from small–scale, high throughput batch reactors to large–scale fixed bed flow reactors for gas– or trickle–phase operation.

Symyx Tools offers scalable reactor systems for catalytic applications in many designs:

  • Parallel Pressure Reactor carries out polymerization and other homogeneous catalytic reactions
  • Symyx Heterogeneous Catalysis workflows cover all major types of catalyst synthesis including:
    • Impregnation of supports
    • Co-precipitation
    • Sol-gel synthesis
    • Solvent evaporation
    • Hydrothermal techniques (including catalyst workup and recovery)

  • Experiment design and definition software allow for efficient reaction planning
  • Execution software allows for integration with a huge number of third party analytical devices

The larger reactors come complete with on–line gas analysis and sample collection for liquids. All reactor systems are supported by Catalyst Synthesis workflows to maximize throughput and up–time.

Screening Pressure Reactor (SPR): Rapidly screen materials in a parallel batch reactor for lower reagent use, and to enable much more rapid experimentation.

Parallel micro-autoclaves are isolated by a unique pin–hole array with a high–temperature capable gasket, allowing individual reactors to have feed stocks and catalysts of different physical properties without cross–talk.Reactor provides automated pressure, temperature, and stir rate control capabilities with easy programming of the desired conditions and ramp rates.Software continuously monitors the temperature, pressure, and stir rate of the reactor over time, with the profiles stored in a database for easy reference of actual hardware performance.

  • Pressure to 1200 psi
  • Temperature to 500°C
  • Automated headspace gas flow and pressure control
  • As little as 65 µL catalyst and 1.8 mL liquid per well
  • 96, 48 or 24 vials per high pressure reaction shell
  • Can be integrated with glove–box for inert loading/unloading of catalyst and liquid dispensing

Parallel Pressure Reactor (PPR): An automated platform for parallel synthesis and polymerization studies over a range of controlled temperatures and pressures in the chemicals and pharmaceuticals laboratory.
