The following two options can be used to identify all of the registry keys that are written to a machine's
registry during the installation of MDL applications.
Option 1
1. Export your machine's registry as a registry file. From Microsoft Windows Explorer, select Run,
then enter regedit.
2. Click OK. The Registry Editor should appear.
3. Assure that you are at the top of the registry and that My Computer is selected.
4. From the main menu, select Registry > Export Registry File.
5. In the Export Registry File dialogue box, enter the name and location of the registry backup file.
6. Assure that the Export Range has been set to All.
7. Assure that the Save as type has been set to Registration Files. For example:
8. Perform the installation/upgrade of the particular MDL application, after which you will need to
export another registry file.

 |
| NOTE: You now have a snapshot of your machine's registry before and after the software
installation/upgrade. |

9. You can now compare the two registry files and look at the differences. The easiest way of
performing this task is to use a file comparison tool (e.g., ExamDiff). This application will
highlight the differences between these two files. The differences are the registry changes that
where made to your machine during the installation/upgrade of the software.
